Worldview: "Every Sphere of Life"

As a relatively new writer, it will be my intention to delve into topics such as: theology, family, and the integration of faith & work.

In this first post I wish to introduce myself and share a little concerning what I do in my full-time vocational calling. I am the Director of a non-profit organization called New Man CDC. We work with men that have struggled in the past with drug addiction and are looking to have successful futures. Our goal is to set these men up with a number of things:

1) A new Worldview – This is extremely important for our students (or clients) because drug addiction generally speaking carries with it an entirely warped framework for viewing reality. We present our men with a Christian Worldview that places them in the: Creation, Fall, Redemption, Restoration narrative.

2) Faith & Work – This is a major part of our Worldview training. How might someone go about working in a “secular” world as a Christian? More than anything,, it is the belief that faith does in fact play a role in “every” sphere of life, which is one of our main objectives.

3) Soft Skills-We work to develop some basic skills in our students. For instance, we want our men to have a working knowledge of a computer. Even in the high-tech world we live in, there are many who barely know how to turn a computer on. So we have a fully-functioning computer lab where our men learn basic computer usage 101 & how to type (we’d like to see 40 WPM). Furthermore, everyone walking out of our doors will have a fully-functioning résumé along with networking tools to conduct a job search (in person & online). Lastly, our students will leave with basic knowledge concerning personal finance through Dave Ramsey’s FPU.

4) Networking - We also believe in gaining the services of people outside of our organization. We have regular speakers that volunteer to come and share how to be: 1) Successful in an interview, along with 2) Potential employers, and 3) Individuals working with Financial Aid (for college students) come in for regular presentations. We also have military leaders that regularly visit our men and provide training on the topic of Leadership.

This list is just a few of the “things” that we do on a regular basis. Most importantly, we want our men to leave our organization empowered to be successful, knowing they never have to return to their former lifestyles. There is so much hope in this broken world because of the God who came down and suffered in order to redeem a people to himself. It is my hope to be able to share some thoughts on this topic among many others.
